The club of the hundreds – and why Joshua Kimmich doesn’t quite fit in
Joshua Kimmich is right before his 100th international. However, he still lacks something for the other members in the hundreds club. The photo gallery shows which these are.
The number is considered a special seal of approval for a football career: If you have made it to 100 missions for your country, you have really made it into the exclusive circle of legends. Joshua Kimmich is right in front of it to take this step.
The DFB captain will probably play its 100th international match at the National League semi-final against Portugal on Wednesday (9 p.m.). Only 13 other players did that before him. The record holder is still undisputed Lothar Matthäus with 150 international matches. You can see the members of the hundreds club in the photo gallery.
For explanation: Only the players of the FRG or the German national team are taken into account after reunification. The DFB does not include international matches for the GDR.
Joshua Kimmich is still missing a big title with the national team
“For me, when it is 100, it is something you are proud of,” said Kimmich at the press conference before the game against Portugal. However, Joshua Kimmich distinguishes a little thing from the other members of the illustrious society of hundreds. They got big titles with the national team, five of them even became world and European champions.
Kimmich, on the other hand, has only won the Confed Cup 2017. So his masterpiece is still pending. The 30-year-old himself also knows: “Of course you always have to win a title. You go to every tournament to play the title.” After all, he could win the Nations League with the DFB team this week. But that should certainly not be the title that Kimmich primarily strives for.
It will take some time until the next German cracks the 100-game brand. Antonio Rüdiger is closest with 79 missions of the current national players, followed by Leroy Sané. So far he has been on 69 games in the DFB jersey.
