Stanley Cup finals
Draisaitl double pack: Oilers win in NHL finals
Germany’s best ice hockey professional decides to start the Stanley Cup finals: Leon Draisaitl hits 1-0 early on. For the Oilers, the series is already running better than 2024.
Leon Draisaitl shot the Edmonton Oilers with two goals for the opening victory in the Stanley Cup finals against the Florida Panthers. In the 4: 3 after extra time, the ice hockey national player took the lead for the hosts after 66 seconds and then also scored for victory. The Cologne team marked the 4: 3 31 seconds before the end of the extension.
“We were a little grown. Every game has its own story, but we only needed and used it,” said Draisaitl. “I thought it was a pretty balanced game.”
The Panthers, in which Nico Sturm was not used, in the meantime took the lead 3-1. Mattias Ekholm met again in the final third to compensate for the defending champion. A team in the best-of-Seven series needs four victories to win the title.
Both teams were also in the final last season
Both teams had faced each other in the final series last season. The Panthers won the first three games before the Oilers forced the decisive seventh game with three victories. The Panthers won this at home 2-1 and won the title. This season is the home advantage with the Oilers.
The second game in the series is again in Edmonton on Saturday. The third and fourth game is in Florida, a fifth game would be back in Canada.
