Millauer celebrated Gasser’s gold before ankle surgery

“I kept my fingers crossed and cheered in front of the TV. It’s bitter for me because of the injury, but it’s just cool that it paid off for Anna,” reported Millauer from Innsbruck, where he was injured on Tuesday ankle to be operated on.

Gasser once again delivered her top performance with pinpoint accuracy and showed strong nerves. “Without doubting herself, she did her tricks perfectly. It made me happiest that on such an important day she once again brings out everything she has trained in the last few years perfectly. She really is her best today snowboarding,” said Millauer in a telephone conversation with the APA – Austria Press Agency.

After difficult training sessions under challenging conditions, the tide turned in the qualification. “I knew that she would do it. Thank God it started well, the second jump was great too, I was really relieved, and the third was a bonus.” But of course he also had to tremble. “The most nerve-wracking thing was that she managed to do the last jump that was planned from the start,” said Millauer.

The 27-year-old injured himself in big-air training in Beijing on Sunday and had to return home without having achieved anything. After his arrival in Milan, he was taken to Tyrol, where the operation on his right foot was imminent.

Fortunately, the injury is not that serious, Millauer expects a six-week break. “I think it’s something relatively simple. But you have to screw it up. I was lucky in my misfortune, but it sucks that I can’t snowboard.”
