Stanley Cup finals: NHL bankruptcy for Draisaitl with a fight and 85 minutes of penalty

Six goals goals, 85 minutes of penalty: The Edmonton Oilers around Germany’s ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl are under maximum pressure after a violent setback in the fight for the Stanley Cup. The Canadians lost 1: 6 at the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers now lead the best-of-Seven series 2-1-if you win four games, you are champion of the North American ice hockey league. Last season, the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers with 4: 3 and won the title.

Discipline lack of oilers weaknesses

For Draisaitl and the Oilers, game three in the current final series was a match to forget, but this requires some processing. “Discipline was a factor, we had four penalty times in the first third alone. That is too much and not a good way to come into play,” emphasized Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

To make matters worse, both teams in the final section made a wild fight. “I think the game was out of control. I don’t think we had behaved like this or played something like that if the gap had only been one or two goals,” commented Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch. In the end there were 85 minutes of penalty for the Oilers, 55 for the Panthers.

Brad Marchand put the home team in the lead in the first minute. “We stood too quickly with our backs to the wall,” emphasized Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner.

Carter Veraeghe (18th) increased to 2-0 for the Panthers before Edmontons Corey Perry (22nd) was able to shorten to 1: 2. As a result, however, the hosts dominated: Sam Reinhart (23rd), Sam Bennett (28th), Aaron Ekblad (44.) and Evan Rodrigues (57.) made the final score against hopelessly inferior oilers. Even Draisaitl could not set an accents.

Teammate Evander Kane listed all problems: “We had no ties in the game today. Especially in the neutral zone in the transition to their zone. We had problems working out and getting into the forechecking.” Last but not least, with the puck losses, they would have made it possible for the Panthers Turnovers.

Game four around the Stanley Cup takes place again in Florida on Friday. “We have not yet shown the entire series our best. That has to happen now and we win game 4,” emphasized captain McDavid.
