Dauphiné: Lipowitz just past yellow – even Evenepoel cheers
The German tour hopeful Florian Lipowitz also shows its class in time trials. Even the yellow jersey is within reach. There is a big loser in the stars of the stars.
At the great strength of the top stars, the German tour hopeful Florian Lipowitz showed its class again and only missed the yellow jersey on the heavy Dauphiné tour. The 24-year-old drove to a strong fifth place in the individual time trial and thus moved up to second place behind double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel in the overall ranking. The Belgian drove in his own league in the fight against the clock.
Lipowitz covered the 17.4 kilometers from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray in 21:47 minutes and was therefore 57 seconds slower than Evenepoel. The youngster was therefore only missing four seconds to take the lead in the overall ranking. The day before, Lipowitz had brought out a lot of time in an outlier group.
Pogacar loses time on Vingegaard
Tour champion Tadej Pogacar had to take a slop. The exceptional Slovenian was not only 49 seconds slower than Evenepoel, but also in the duel with his great rival Jonas Vingegaard for 28 seconds. With a view of the long tour time trial on July 9 in Caen, Pogacar should not fall over 33 kilometers.
Thanks to its parforcerite, even through its parforcerite, the yellow jersey from Spaniard Ivan Romeo, who is now third back. Vingegaard is in fifth place with a gap of 16 seconds, Pogacar (0:38) is only overall. This promises tension for the upcoming mountains.
1000. Victory for Evenepoels teams
“We had a perfect strategy. I am very happy and proud of the victory. It is the 1000th victory of our team. This victory is for Patrick (note: ex-team boss Lefevere). I am better than last year, I worked hard,” said Evenepoel.
Vingegaard was also satisfied: “Remco is the best time driver in the world. Time to win Tadej, so I can be happy. It is always better to be ahead than behind.”
The heavy tour, which ends on Sunday on the Plateau du Mont-Cenis, is almost the dress rehearsal for the Tour de France from July 5th to 27th. On Thursday, the Dauphiné tour continues with the fifth stage over 183 kilometers from Saint-Priest to Mâcon.
