Despite the Ferrari crisis, Hamilton does not think of the end of the career
It doesn’t work for Lewis Hamilton. The eighth World Cup title is out of reach for the Ferrari star early. Italy’s press reacts with speculation to which the old master has a clear opinion.
Formula 1 record world champion Lewis Hamilton has resisted rumors about his approaching career end. “I noticed that I supposedly stop. I just started at Ferrari,” said the 40-year-old Brit before the Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal. “It will not happen that I give up,” emphasized Hamilton. He added to various media reports in Italy: “To certain people: stop thinking of such stories!”
After moving from Mercedes in winter, Hamilton experiences difficult months at the Scuderia at the start. Although he was able to ensure a surprise with his sprint victory in China, it is hardly possible as desired. The former long-term winner is only in sixth place on the driver’s World Cup. “I’m here for several years,” said Hamilton before the race on Sunday (8:00 p.m./Sky and RTL) and emphasized: “There is no doubt with me.”
Hamilton attacks media: “People have no idea”
The seven-time champion also rejected Italian reports about an allegedly upcoming out of Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur and strengthened the Frenchman’s back. “I am fully behind Fred. He is the main reason why I came to Ferrari,” said Hamilton: “I like to work with him. I only learned about these stories here when I arrived in Canada and unfortunately have to say: Most people have no idea what happens at Ferrari behind the scenes.”
According to Hamilton, a replacement of Vasseur, despite the mixed results of him and team -mate Charles Leclerc, is not up for debate. The motorsport superstar also warned of such a step because it was difficult to build a completely new team structure at the traditional racing team. “Nobody should forget how long it will take for leading employees to get into the job. I calculate firmly with Fred,” said Hamilton, who has tied to the racing team from Maranello for several years.
