After a suit scandal: yellow and red cards in ski jumping
At the past World Cup there is a scandal about manipulated suits. For the coming season, the World Association is now deciding on rule adjustments.
In the future there will be yellow and red cards in ski jumping. They are part of several changes of rule that the World Association FIS introduces after the World Cup scandal for manipulated jump suits for the coming season. An athlete who is disqualified due to an equipment shock receives a yellow card. Another violation leads to a red card and a lock for the following competition.
The athlete’s nation also loses a starting place for the event in question. So far, disqualifications – for example due to excessive suits – have usually had no effects on the following events.
Modernized measurements in control
The case was different at the World Championships last winter in Trondheim. There, manipulated suits of Norwegian ski jumper triggered a fraud scandal. The World Cup host equipped the suits with a volume banned according to the regulations, which should ensure more stability after the jump. Springer like world champion Marius Lindvik, who were caught with the suits, were closed to the following competitions.
In addition to the introduction of the card system, the FIS also relies on modernized measurements in control and new requirements for the suits. They should offer less space for manipulations. In the event of conscious fraud – for example due to prohibited suit changes after the controls – additional sanctions also apply.
