Two magic blows for the triumph: Spaun wins US Open
The weather was bad – and probably just the thing for JJ Spaun. After an interruption, he catches the US Open and gets the first major title of his career thanks to two Famoser blows.
Thanks to Famoser blows on the last track, Golf professional JJ Spaun won the US Open. He was the only player to stay at the Major tournament in Oakmont with 279 blows under the place of space and ultimately won with two strokes on the Scots Robert Macintyre. For the 36-year-old American Spaun, it was the first major victory in his career.
“I never thought that I would stand here and hold this trophy in my hands,” said Spaun after his triumph, for which he received $ 4.3 million (around 3.73 million euros). “I always had ambitions and dreams. I never knew where my upper limit is. I just try to be the best golfer that I can be. I am pleased that I could show this here in Oakmont.”
Spaun’s restart after a storm break
The day for Spaun had started very badly, in the first six lanes he made five bogeys – one more than planned one blow. Due to heavy rain, there was an interruption of more than an hour and a half with the $ 21.5 million in the US state of Pennsylvania. It used Spaun to collect.
On lane 17 he hit the ball from the tee over 287 meters directly onto the green, on lane 18 he achieved the longest putt of the tournament from almost 20 meters. The two birdies lanes less than the standard of space – made the victory perfect.
Scheffler and Mcilroy without an opportunity
Spaun also benefited from the fact that the two leaders collapsed in the final round after the first three days. The US professional Sam Burns only played a 78 round on the difficult Par-70 course and ended the tournament in the divided seventh place. The Australian veteran Adam Scott also failed on the final day with 79 strokes.
The world ranking list of Scottie Scheffler from the USA ended the third major of the year like Burns in seventh place. Northern Ireland’s golfstar Rory McIlroy was at the end of 19. The German Stephan Jäger had failed after two days on the cut and excreted prematurely.
