Second division club Eintracht Braunschweig, however, meets the Cup defender VfB Stuttgart in the first main round in mid-August. This was the result of the draw in the Dortmund Football Museum. The first round’s games are planned between August 15 and 18.
Last season, the Bremen failed 1-2 at the third division team from East Westphalia in the quarter -finals. The third division champion and second division climber came to the final, failed there at the Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. Its project title defense now begins in Braunschweig.
There were also interesting lots for the north clubs, which the German 100-meter record holder Owen looked at from Hamburger SV.
Hamburg: A local derby and a solvable task for the HSV
Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli does not have to travel far for the cup start. The Hamburgers have to drive about 20 kilometers to compete with the Oberligisten Eintracht Norderstedt.
“The fact that many fans can certainly visit the game due to the spatial proximity is also a nice aspect of this draw,” said St. Paulis sports director Andreas Bornemann. The encounter for striker Elias Saad will be a special game. The Tunisian international came to FC St. Pauli from Norderstedt in early 2023.
Favorite in the first round is also Bundesliga promoted Hamburger SV. The team has to deal with FK Pirmasens from the Rhineland-Palatinate/Saar Oberliga.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: FC Hansa against Bundesliga clubs in the DFB Cup
Hansa Rostock received an attractive lot. The third division club receives a Bundesliga club in TSG Hoffenheim. “If we bring our virtues onto the square, we are always an unpleasant opponent. Cup is emotions, will and courage and all of this we want to throw in this game as an outsider,” said Amir Shapourzadeh, director of professional football from FC Hansa.
Schleswig-Holstein: Holstein Kiel into Saarland
Bundesliga relegated Holstein Kiel has to travel to Saarland to the top division FC Homburg in the first round. “Homburg is a real traditional club,” said Holstein coach Marcel Rapp. It will be a special game for Phil Harres, he said. Harres came to the fjord from Homburg a year ago. The regional league VfB Lübeck is 98 outsiders against the second division club SV Darmstadt.
Bremen: Werder’s revenge chance, Hemelingen’s debut
Head coach Horst Steffen will give his competitive debut for Werder Bremen against the cup finalist Arminia Bielefeld. The respect for the task is noticeable. “Bielefeld is certainly one of the hardest lots that were possible,” he said according to the club. Captain Marco Friedl announced: “We definitely have to pay an invoice, but we will throw everything into the balance.”
The fifth-class SV Hemelingen will deal with a Bundesliga club at her DFB Cup premiere. The master of the Bremen league plays against VfL Wolfsburg. “We will continue to write history,” said Hemelingen’s coach Günter Tüncel, 36, with a smile on ZDF.
Lower Saxony: Attractive lot for Delmenhorst
It was hardly much more difficult for Eintracht Braunschweig. “With VfB Stuttgart, we not only receive the incumbent cup winner, but also one of the top teams from Germany,” said sports manager Benjamin Kessel.
Because the Stuttgarters play the Franz Beckenbauer supercup against Master Bayern Munich on the cup weekend on the cup weekend, the game in Braunschweig will only take place on August 26 or 27.
Regional league Atlas Delmenhorst also receives a high visit to the Bundesliga in the first round. The Delmenhorster play against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Atlas-Ligarival Blau-Weiß Lohne plays against the second division club SpVgg Greuther Fürth. “We take how it comes,” said Lohnes coach Uwe Möhrle on ZDF. “It will be a holiday for us.”
