U21 European Championships: Floodlights fail in group final of the Germans

The German U21 national team leads against England when a floodlight is. The referee has to react – and first whistles for the break.

Suddenly a light went out. In the group final of the German U21 national team at the European Championship against England, there was a strange incident. In the stoppage time of the first half of the game, a floodlight mast was canceled at 2-0 for the selection of the German Football Association. The view of U21 national coach Antonio di Salvo went upholidated in Nitra like the many spectators.

Referee Sander van der Eijk from the Netherlands was looking for a conversation with the fourth official Jakob Sundberg (Denmark). The Dutch also called up the captains, Merlin Röhl from the German side and Harvey Elliott from the English team. After passing for a few minutes, the referee whistled at half -time. After the change of sides, the light worked again and it could be continued normally.
