He cannot leave it: Mertesacker runs for district league teams
The world champion by Mertesacker is now a TV expert next to and not on the pitch, but now laces the soccer shoes again. Why this is a great honor for him.
Ex-international via Mertesacker, 40, will play football again-for a district league team who is particularly important to him. The TV expert runs on June 27 (6 p.m.) on the occasion of the 125th birthday of TSV Pattensen from 1890 in the test game against second division Hannover 96, as the club on Instagram announced. First the “new press” reported about it.
From the youth in the small town south of Hanover, Mertesacker once switched to the youngsters of 96 as a child, where he became a professional and international. Stations at Werder and Arsenal followed.
Per Mertesacker wants to go from the start
“It is a great honor to put on the shoes for the club again, where I started at the age of 4,” the “Bild” quoted the world champion from 2014. “I’m halfway in shape.” He therefore wants to stand in the starting eleven and hold out for at least 30 minutes.
The 40-year-old does not plan regular missions. “It is out of the question for me. But my passport is still at the TSV, I think,” he said.
