Relaunch : Looking Ahead

DS is revising its mid-range SUV and is also deleting part of its name from the seven. There is also a changed face for the DS7, new infotainment and a plug-in hybrid with 265 kW / 360 PS.

Not much has really happened in the facelift of the D7, which was formerly known as the DS7 Crossback. There are the retouchings of design details that are usual for a model update, which are most noticeable on the face with new LED eyes without really being noticeable. However, even after the revision, the fashionable and playful character of the DS7 has remained. Thanks to a new rear end, the 4.59 meter long SUV is now two centimeters longer than before and imperceptibly wider and higher. Inside, the occupants now look at a new twelve-inch infotainment system, which should reduce the gap to the competition. The mid-range model retains its numerous driver assistance systems and the damper control linked to a digital camera in the vehicle. “Our aim was to respect the personality and elegance of the existing shape and to add an extra touch of dynamism with sharper lines,” says DS Design Director Thierry Metroz Design fits in well with the current DS Automobiles range.”

Many DS fans will be most happy about a new top engine, because the most powerful version of the plug-in hybrid known from other Stellantis brands with 265 kW / 360 hp is now also being used in the revised DS7. The small 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder with 147 kW / 200 hp is supported by two electric motors on the front and rear axles, which contribute a further 81 kW / 110 hp and 83 kW / 113 hp, giving the French all-wheel drive vehicle 360 hp strengthen. For the increased engine power, the chassis has been lowered by 15 mm, the track is wider (+24 mm at the front, +10 mm at the rear) and the front brakes have an increased diameter of 38 centimeters. From a standing start, the hybrid all-wheel drive vehicle reaches 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

A 300 hp all-wheel drive remains in the range, which, like the 225 hp front-wheel drive variant, is a plug-in hybrid that offers a purely electric range of over 60 kilometers. A 130 hp turbo diesel is less befitting. In all models, the engine power is transmitted to one or both axles via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Top equipment Opera now offers a choice of black or gray nappa leather interior in the new DS7. A 515-watt high-tech sound from 14 loudspeakers should ensure excellent sound. Market launch for the upgraded DS7 is in late autumn; the prices should be at the level of the current model, which starts at 38,390 euros for the 130 hp basic diesel.
