Pierpaolo Lazzarini is known for his unusual designs. For example, he created the “Pangeos”, a type of swimming turtle that would have what it takes to become the largest cruise ship in the world (you can find out more here). One could accuse the Italian of having a certain tendency to megalomania, even though he certainly has a large number of designs for smaller objects to offer.
The “Colossea”, which, as the name suggests, would be a gigantic yacht, also falls into this category. The designer is apparently still missing a customer, but if he finds one, the ship would break all records.
The “Colossea” would be the longest yacht
It starts with the dimensions: the yacht would be 37.5 meters high and an incredible 204 meters long. For comparison: The currently longest yacht in the world, the “Azzam”, is “only” 180.6 meters. But the owner of the “Colossea” would not only have the upper hand at sea.
Because the ship design envisages a two-in-one model. The bridge of the yacht would consist of an airship. It would serve as a command center and accommodation while traveling on the water, but if desired could detach itself completely from the watercraft and fly around self-sufficiently.
The design for the airship is based on the legendary “Norge”. This was an Italian airship that first flew in 1924 and is known for having flown over the North Pole. Somewhat disgracefully, it was dismantled in Alaska after this achievement.
The most luxurious docking station in the world
The “Colossea” airship, if realized, will be able to lift 10 tons of payload and accommodate up to 24 guests. The crew should consist of ten people. Roughly the same amount would also have space on the yacht, which will not only serve as a docking station for the aircraft, but also has a lot of amenities planned.
On board, Lazzarini is planning several pools, a landing pad for helicopters and enough space for everything the potential buyer can think of. But it won’t be cheap. Various media outlets are putting the figure at one billion US dollars into the room.
Perhaps that is also the reason why the designer tries to address Elon Musk personally in several images. Maybe the timing isn’t so bad after all – after all, tech CEO Mark Zuckerberg just bought a huge yacht (learn more here).
