Pagani presents the sports car dream Utopia Roadster

Pagani produces between 50 and 60 cars every year. A model like the Pagani Utopia introduced two years ago therefore places severe restrictions on the company (read more here). A total of 99 of the coupés are to be built – so it is not that easy for people with sufficient financial means to get their hands on a super sports car from the small manufacturer.

The Pagani Utopia Roadster adds another 130 units to this model series. As the “” reports, the price is 3.7 million euros gross, but without the many expensive extras. Pagani itself is keeping quiet about the costs. One thing is certain: the Roadster is a lot more expensive than the Coupé.

The company is not interested in record prices, even though Pagani can apparently make a good living from it despite minimal output. Pagani is probably forced to charge such high prices because an almost excessive amount of effort goes into every part of the car. Since its founding, Pagani has repeatedly emphasized how important it is to design every component, no matter how inconspicuous, as artistically and flawlessly as possible. Whether sensible or not, this takes time: the milling machines need 28 hours to make the steering wheel alone, for example. In this time, a 1.6-kilogram component is extracted from a 43-kilogram block of light metal – which is then polished and refined by hand.

Pagani offers manual transmission and fabric roof in the Utopia Roadster

Pagani is not closed to current technology, but is very reserved. For weight reasons, for example, there is no additional electric drive, just a combustion engine with two turbochargers. This V12 produces 864 hp and can be shifted manually if you opt for the almost extinct hand knob in the center console. The car does have a display, however, and Pagani is even using smart tires for the first time.

Not many manufacturers are following this path, which is somewhat out of date for various reasons. Even Bugatti recently showed the Tourbillon, a hypercar with a hybrid drive, but did without a turbocharger (read more here). Porsche itself has now heralded the gradual end of pure-bred combustion engines with the traditional 911, but is approaching the new drive technology very cautiously with this model (read more here).

As far as the new Pagani is concerned, the open roadster is likely to be superior to the recently introduced coupé in terms of sound. The manufacturer has come up with a 3-in-1 solution for the roof, which comes standard with a hardtop with a large glass insert. However, you have to decide before the trip whether you want to take the roof with you or not. It is not possible to remove it later and stow it in the vehicle. So you can either travel with the top down or with the top down. But: If you drive with the top down, you are not completely exposed to unexpected rain. Behind the seats in the Utopia Roadster there is a small bag with a small fabric roof that can be quickly put up in an emergency.

Speaking of bags: Apart from two small suitcases in the rear, there is hardly any storage space in the Pagani Utopia Roadster – so it is completely unsuitable for longer trips.
