The III International Congress of Smart Cities has begun

Under the motto “Human+Innovative+Cities”began in the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the UBA the III International Congress on Smart Cities, which includes the participation of mayors from various provincial capitals and the suburbs.

At the opening ceremony, Emiliano Yacobitti, Vice-Chancellor of the UBA, highlighted the importance of this congress and stressed “the exchange of experiences to find innovative solutions to the problems facing cities.” He pointed out that urban centers need to “make use of intelligence to optimize their resources and share them” and that the role of public universities “is to ensure that large cities use this intelligence so that, ultimately, citizens can live better.”

For his part, the dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Professor Emeritus Dr. Ricardo Pahlen, explained that The university is made up of teaching, research and extension, and this Congress falls within this last category.since the extension, he stressed, “is for the University to be at the side of the people.” He also said that “university and society are one and the same thing.”

He also thanked the mayors for their willingness to participate and the entire Economic Sciences community for making this Congress a reality.

Omar Quiroga, Director of the Center for Smart Cities, stressed that “With citizen participation it is possible to transform cities, making them more human and innovative,” and that this Congress is an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing large urban centres.

In a first panel, They spoke about “Intelligent transformation of large urban centers in Argentina”. They were present Daniel Passerini, Mayor of Cordoba; Ulpiano Suarezfrom Mendoza, Rossana Chahlafrom San Miguel de Tucumán and Pablo Javkin, from Rosario.

In a second panel, the mayors of Tres de Febrero, Diego Valenzuela; of Saint Michael, Jaime Mendez; and Escobar, Ariel Sujarchuk, They discussed innovative experiences in municipalities in the province of Buenos Aires.

On the second day, the national deputy Fabio Quetglasdirector of the Master’s Degree in Cities at UBA, Graciela Marty (UNICIPIO Provincial Coordinator – Mendoza) and Claudio Augugliaro (President of Metropolitan Citizenship) will discuss the challenges of institutionalizing metropolitan areas, while Christian Mendez (Eyes on alert), Lucia Bellocchio (Smart Cities Trend), Juan Jose Prada (Director of Technology Management of the Montevideo City Hall) and Eduardo Cepeda (Director Danaide SA) will discuss Intelligent Public Management.
