Michael Schumacher’s last Ferrari is being auctioned

Michael Schumacher drove for Ferrari for ten years. He became world champion several times. Now one of the red racing cars gets a new owner.

With Ferrari, Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher won the World Championship five times in a row between 2000 and 2004. Now the last of his red racing cars is going under the hammer: Starting on Thursday, the Ferrari in which Schumacher drove his last season for the Scuderia in 2006 will be auctioned off in New York at the RM Sotheby’s auction house. The Ferrari 248 F1 with chassis number 254 is on offer and the auction runs until November 19th. It is the fifth of a total of eight existing Ferrari 248 F1 chassis.

Although Schumacher failed in the fight for his eighth world title in a duel with the Spaniard Fernando Alonso, with the “Red Goddess” now on offer, the Kerpener won five Grand Prix victories, including his last triumph at the Hockenheimring. Schumacher also broke the pole position record of his idol Ayrton Senna with this chassis.

“Michael was incredibly self-critical and was never good at losing” – as TV reporter Kai Ebel experienced the world champion

The car was purchased directly from Ferrari in December 2007 by an anonymous owner. However, the car was not only kept in the garage during this time, but was taken out for individual test drives at Ferrari’s in-house test track in Fiorano, as the “Motorsport Magazine” reported. However, the car has not been driven on the route for more than a decade.

Millions in proceeds expected for Michael Schumacher’s car

Several former Schumacher cars had already been auctioned off in the past. Most recently, a Schumacher Ferrari from the 2003 season changed hands at the end of 2022 for almost 15 million euros. This time too, an amount of this magnitude is expected.

30 years ago, Schumacher won the World Cup for the first time in Australia in a dramatic finale to an already highly emotional season, including the terrible weekend in Imola with the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. After a collision with his pursuer Damon Hill, Schumacher first retired, and then the Briton was no longer able to continue. Schumacher became the first German Formula 1 world champion by one point.

Schumacher was seriously injured in a skiing accident at the end of 2013. He has not appeared in public since.
