Warning of the ADAC
This companion in the trunk drives the fuel consumption up

Prices for fuels rise, the ADAC warns: some accessories are driven up to consume their car – it is time to separate from such companions.
The prices for petrol and diesel are constantly increasing at petrol stations. So what can drivers do so as not to let the costs outline? Driving fuel -saving helps. The savings potential is remarkable: with a moderate driving style alone, consumption can be reduced by up to 15 percent. Other small measures bring another five percent. Together makes a fifth less petrol consumption.
ADAC tip for weight
First you should throw ballast. 100 kilograms of additional weight lead to about 0.3 liters of additional consumption. So you should muck out the car and not transport unnecessary loads. The car cannot hurt a little anyway, a fully filled vehicle is not a joy. However, only real loads have real effects. The typical small stuff such as umbrellas, old magazines and CDs hardly weigh anything.
The situation is different with the spare wheel. This could be replaced with a light breakdown set. Such a set fills the tire with a sticky liquid, which closes most cracks. Only really torn tires don’t stick the material together again. The tire will then be changed later in the workshop.
In the event of cases, such a set makes it easier to get the car flotter again. After all, the car does not have to be jacked up with the car. In addition, the bolts, which are often very firm, do not have to be solved. Many drivers cannot do the classic tire change alone. In contrast, it is child’s play to screw the container to the valve and let the liquid flow in. In addition to the lower weight, you are rewarded with more cargo space. The hollow for the spare wheel is available as an additional storage space.
Expansion costs gasoline
Additions on the vehicle also increase consumption. They not only increase the weight, they also affect air resistance. A classic is the roof case. Such a container is very practical when traveling because it provides about 400 liters more storage space. In addition to the weight of the holder and box, the air resistance is noticeable: Such a suitcase leads to additional consumption of about one liter to a hundred kilometers. As soon as it is no longer required, it should therefore be dismantled again.
If you transport your skis in it, it is certainly comfortable to leave the box on the roof all the season. But that is then bought with additional consumption. The same applies to bicycle racks on the roof or at the rear – they also bring the additional weight and change the aerodynamics negatively. Permanent roof racks have become rare for cars. You can see them more often on buses, SUVs and off -roaders. And of course they also increase consumption. Especially if aluminum players, sand sheets and similar show objects are also carried.
43.5 liters per 100 kilometers – the worst foers in car history

One Dodge Viper reached on average 21.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The vehicle was built in numerous variants from 1992 to 2017. The largest engine of all series is a V10 with 8.4 liters of displacement and 649 hp. Oh, and correctly recognized: Kai Pflaum sits at the wheel of the car in this photo.

Note tires
The tires are not very noticed, they also affect consumption. For example, if you have too little pressure. The less pressure, the more the tire is deformed in the movement, and the greater the contact surface – both lead to increased consumption. You should therefore regularly make sure that the tires are filled correctly. It is best for fuel consumption to be a level at the top of the specified scale.
Another tire error: SUV drivers are magically attracted by off -road tires. They love the martial look, preferably in the maximum permitted size. These tires have their advantages in the area, but only disadvantages on the street. In any case, you increase consumption, this is due to the profile and the higher mass of the tires. With each acceleration process, this mass must be transferred in rotation, and this challenges the engine.
