Driver’s license: This way, more from class B can be brought out without testing

Driving license class B is standard today, with it you can drive all the cars. There is no restriction on PS or speed, but very well in terms of weight. At 3.5 tons is over.

B cannot keep up with the old driver’s license in class 3. But you can drive a little more than just a car: for example, you can drive eight people, if you count the driver, it is nine. To do this, you can move small Kraf bikes with a maximum speed of 45 km/h and other restrictions-this is sufficient for a city scooter, whether burner or electrically. Three wheels can also be moved – such as scooters with two tires on one axis. Four-wheel small vehicles such as quads anyway. Surprisingly, class B also allowed tractors (tractors up to 40 km/h) and even huge combine harvesters (up to 25 km/h).

However, it looks dark when it comes to the subject.

The team of the vehicle and trailer must not be more than 3500 kilograms. For example in the craft: with a towing vehicle, such as a panel van, there is little weight for the trailer. The same applies to agriculture. In the private frame, you can cross the limit with caravans, horse or boat trailers. With class B, motor vehicles up to 3500 kilograms of permissible total mass (ZGM) with trailers up to 750 kilograms of ZGM may be driven. If the total mass of the combination exceeds 3500 kilograms, the trailer may be heavier.

Where is the way out? You quickly think of the class for “light truck” plus trailer operation – i.e. C1 plus C1E. However, costs and effort are high, at least if you don’t want to drive a truck at all.

The solution: the B96 extension. Many do not know this path, they would think of a federal road during the abbreviation B96. It is an expansion of class B. Great advantage: it does not require any examination. The driving school is enough. There is a theoretical and a practical part. The whole thing can be done in one day. According to ADAC, the costs are manageable 300 to 500 euros. B96 applies across Europe and now the trailer can be heavier than 750 kilograms. However, the weight of towing vehicle and trailer must not exceed 4250 kilograms. With an SUV like the Mercedes ML, this can look like this: The permissible weight of the car is 2800 kilos, 1450 real weight for the trailer remains. With a VW Tiguan with all -wheel drive, the permissible weight is 2250 kilos, so two tons can be on the hook. Last example: A Mitsubishi Pajero is already 3030 kilos – with class B, the trailer remain 750 kilos for the trailer. With the expansion it is at least 1220 kilos.

The next step would be the class BE – but there is a practical exam, with costs and the chance. In addition, at least five hours of driving are prescribed. You should expect 1000 euros. If everything goes well. BE may be driven up to 3.5 tons. Together and towing vehicle are allowed to weigh seven tons together. Whether you choose the simple expansion B96 or the larger BE, before starting the training you should practice driving with a trailer extensively. In the frame that is allowed by class B. Class B you get without ever driving a trailer. You should bring a little more in practice for B96 or BE.
