In Russia, 91,662 new cars were sold in January 2022, which is 3.7% less than in January 2020. This was reported on February 4 by the press service of the Association of European Businesses (AEB).
“Traditionally, January is a month of low sales of new cars. As expected, the market’s slightly declining trend continued in 2022, with 91,662 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold in the first month of 2022, down 3.7% year-on-year. Sales of light commercial vehicles also declined, but much more significantly, by 15%, due to lower business activity during the New Year holidays. As a result of the return of the import customs duty on electric vehicles in the amount of 15%, we are seeing an increase in their prices for the end consumer,” said Thomas Stärzel, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
According to the head of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, according to forecasts, the country is not expected to quickly recover the market this year, but it is possible that the prevailing trend today will change in the second half of the year.
On October 26, it was reported that in Russia for the third quarter of 2021, the number of official car dealerships decreased by 39.
So, if in July 2021 in our country there were 3182 official dealer centers for the sale and maintenance of cars, then in October there were 3143 of them. In total, 101 dealer contracts were terminated in the third quarter of this year, and 62 new ones were concluded.
