There can be fines and points if the phone is picked up at the wheel. But without a speed camera it was difficult for the police to punish such offenses – not now.
After test phases in the police headquarters Mainz and Trier, the first cell phone speedster in Rhineland-Palatinate goes to regular operation. Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) presented the use of these so -called monocam on Autobahn 60 in Mainz today.
In perspective, all five police headquarters in Rhineland-Palatinate should get such a device. With them, another step towards higher traffic safety is possible, said Ebling in advance.
It is a camera that has been used in the Netherlands for a long time. Roughly speaking, software analyzes pictures of vehicles and recognizes whether the driver is committing a cell phone violation.
