Works council member Helmut Emler named the continuing delivery problems, especially for semiconductors, “despite full order books” as the reason. This was also confirmed by a company spokeswoman.
The cooperation planned by Steyr Automotive owner Siegfried Wolf with the Russian automobile group GAZ, in which he has a stake, must be “analyzed carefully,” said Emler. From 2023, small vans based on GAZ models are to be developed in Steyr, for which an exchange of components in both directions is planned. This could exacerbate current supply bottlenecks, says Emler, with a view to the sanctions against Russia because of the invasion of Ukraine. If deliveries of components from Russia are not possible, alternatives would be sought, the workers’ council shares the company’s view.
