The International Motor Show IAA is due to start in Munich in September – but apparently not without disruption: demonstrators want to stand in the way of the “destructive car madness”.
Auto opponents have called for a mass action against the IAA auto show in Munich under the motto “#blockIAA – disempower car companies, protect the climate”.
On Tuesday, press spokeswoman Lou Winters said on behalf of the alliance “Sand in the gears”: “In September we will stand in the way of the destructive car madness.”
The auto industry is trying to “keep its future-free business model going”; but “electric cars are not a solution either from a social or ecological point of view,” said the spokeswoman and announced that her alliance would “block the IAA in its process”. The alliance calls for “a radical change in traffic” with car-free cities and free local public transport. Around 100 activists of the group blocked the main entrance to the IAA in Frankfurt in 2019.
On request, the Munich Police Headquarters announced: «Unpeaceful protests and actions with significant security disruptions will be dealt with consistently and immediately. Legal violations, in particular established criminal offenses, will be prosecuted. ” To ensure that IAA Mobility 2021 runs safely and that visitors, exhibitors and guests are safe, “the Munich police will be deployed with sufficient strength” and will act accordingly.
