The objective of the Export Increase Fund

With the resources of that Export Increase Fundthe Government aims to finance, among other issues, programs that stimulate the production and development of small and medium producers of regional economies, as in this case, the wool.

Last October, the provinces of Río Negro, Neuquén, Chubut, Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz requested support for small and medium sheep wool producers to “approach the economic equilibrium point of their establishments”, indicated Economía.

A month later, Buenos Aires was added to these provinces, since the Patagones party shares the same sanitary region and has similar agroecological conditions as the other districts.

According to the Palacio de Hacienda, the reasons that founded the provinces are related to the “progressive fall of the international prices of wool, aggravated by the Covid 19 pandemic, and which, currently, in a global inflationary context that prioritizes lower-cost synthetic products, further aggravates the situation of many small- and medium-scale producers”.

Official data indicates that in the patagonian region there are 8,341 sheep producers, with a declared stock of 6,925,692 heads; This area of the country contributes approximately 70% of the national wool production.

In addition, almost 100% of the Patagonian production is exported, mainly as washed and combed wool and to a lesser extent as dirty wool.
