At the end of another strong week, the Dax remains at a high level. The leading German index was little changed in early trading on Friday at 15,066.41 points. The day before, the stock market barometer had climbed above the 15,000 mark for the first time since February 2022.

The MDax for medium-sized German companies rose by 0.80 percent to 28,301.63 points on Friday. The EuroStoxx 50, the leading index in the euro zone, rose by 0.3 percent.

The mood on the financial markets remains friendly. After the more moderate inflation data that had been hoped for, things had recently gone up on Wall Street. These had underpinned the hopes of many investors that the US Federal Reserve could take it easy when it comes to raising interest rates.

In this environment, investors across Europe cashed in on shares from the automotive industry, which have performed particularly well since the beginning of the year. At the end of the Dax, the preferred shares of Volkswagen (VW) and the shares of Mercedes-Benz each fell by more than two percent.

At the top of the index, Bayer’s shares continued their recent rally and rose by around two percent. Activist investors are currently pushing for changes at the pharmaceutical and agrochemical group.

United Internet shares were the favorite in the MDax with a plus of more than three percent. According to sources, the Internet service provider and telecom group is considering going public for its hosting subsidiary Ionos next week. The company had early discussions with fund managers to get a feel for demand, Bloomberg news agency reported, citing those in the know. The news is positive, although not surprising, said a trader.
