Government prepares assistance measures for producers affected by the drought

For now, Bahillo has already held meetings with AFIP leaders and this Wednesday he will do the same with those responsible for Banco Nación. The main focus will be to provide tax relief and soft loans to agricultural and livestock producers who are already posting monetary losses and will have trouble continuing with their activity.

After the meeting with the agency, from Agriculture they indicated: “From AFIP they made their information structure available so that aid can be specified and directed efficiently to those who really need the help of the State. Some of the concerns presented were discussed by the rural entities at the meeting on Friday at INTA Castelar: work with the provinces to declare an emergency in the territories (this is a fundamental condition to be able to join the benefits by producers), modify some tax issues, refunding or not charging for a period of time some tax charges, among others”.

In turn, the AFIP explained that the points discussed at the meeting will continue to be outlined and a formal proposal will be presented on the measures that could be implemented in the short term.

In parallel, from the Rural Society and with the accompaniment of the Liaison Table, they approached Massa and Bahillo with a job through which they request a 50% reduction in export withholdings. Although the officials took note, this would not be the chosen path of assistance but would rather be oriented towards direct disbursement of non-reimbursable contributions, soft loans and support and strengthening programs for regional economies.

The plan to mitigate the economic impact of the drought is not easy because there are currently many activities that are suffering its effects and so many more small farmers and producers who at harvest time will have to bear losses of up to US$1,500 per hectare. .

In this context, Bahillo detailed the work agenda that can be seen over the next few days: “Our work is to generate tools that allow producers to refinance liabilities, finance working capital for upcoming campaigns at low rates and see all the tax facilities that can be applied to your claims”. During the week we will be working together with the Liaison Desk technicians so that on Thursday or Friday, the proposals are presented to the minister and that the announcements are made in the first days of February”.

At the same time, the good news is that last weekend there was a series of rains that improved the soil moisture profile in the core area and new rainfall is expected in the coming days. Something that will surely alleviate the situation of crops and the pressure that the economy may suffer in 2023.
