On Thursday Massa met with the Undersecretary for International Affairs of the United States Department of the Treasury, Jay Shambaugh; with India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman; and with China’s Vice Minister of Finance, wang dongwei.

With Shambaugh, the discussion focused on “the international financial situation,” as well as “the advances in the economic program and in the review of the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF),” said the Palace of Finance. They also addressed the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine and the drought in Argentinatwo aspects that the Government considers should be taken into account in negotiations with the Fund due to their impact on fiscal accounts and foreign currency income.

Next to sitharaman discussed the possibilities of investment for the development of infrastructures for smart and inclusive cities, and the functioning of the role of multilateral banks. In this sense, they referred to the mechanisms for strengthening reserves and the different currency swaps to promote commercial exchange.

Finally, with Dongwei they discussed infrastructure financing and also the swap. China is one of the big investors in strategic infrastructure in several developing countries and in particular in Argentina, where it focused on rail transport and energy investments.

Finally, Massa participated this Thursday in the welcome dinner of the Summit, where he shared a brief and informal meeting with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva in which discussed the economic situation of the country, two days before the official meeting that will be held on Saturday.

This Friday the technical team of the Ministry of Economy, led by Vice Minister Gabriel Rubinstein and Chief of Staff Leonardo Madcur, will seek approval of the revision of the goals for the fourth quarter that would enable a disbursement of US$5.4 billion.
