The head of the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV), Georg Knill, is pushing for an exit in view of Austria’s recent increase in dependence on Russian natural gas.
“We can no longer rely on this source”said Knill on Sunday in the ORF”press hour”. When asked about OMV’s supply contract with Gazprom, which was extended from 2018 to 2040, Knill said they had reached an agreement with Russia “completely miscalculated”Austria had been deceived.
- Georg Knill, President of the Federation of Industrialists, in the “press hour”:
Knill estimates that the state’s energy aid will not fully take effect. Seven billion euros have been budgeted for this. After the massive state aid, first during the corona pandemic and then in the energy crisis, it is necessary to wean ourselves off from state funds. You have to get away from the help and back to personal responsibility. The IV will withdraw when there are calls for more help. “We must also take ourselves by the hand”according to Knell.
Filling vacancies will remain the main challenge for the coming years.
