Austrian Airlines: Why flight cancellations can be expected on Tuesday
The reason for the disruption is a works meeting at which around 3,200 employees are invited.

“Currently, 34 flights and around 1,700 passengers are affected by adjustments due to the works meeting. Around 4,200 passengers can start their flight on Tuesday morning. Destinations in Central Europe are mainly affected by the adjustments. “Austrian Airlines long-haul destinations can currently be served regularly,” shared the AUA of the APA with.

In addition, the airline has already actively informed passengers who provided a telephone number or email address when booking about flight adjustments and rebookings.

The works council invites the approximately 3,200 members of the on-board staff to a works meeting at 9 a.m. “It’s hard to say how many employees are coming,” said Rainer Stratberger, board works council, to the APA. He expects 600 to 1,000 participants at the works meeting. After all, many employees are on the road or on vacation.

Savings package is to be phased out gradually

At the works meeting, the on-board staff should be informed about the faltering renegotiations on the collective agreement (KV). The AUA board had declared in the previous week that it had improved the offer twice after the conclusion of the KV negotiations in October of the previous year. However, the board works council refers to the good business of the airline again after the corona pandemic and calls for a significant improvement. In October, an increase of 7 percent was agreed, which corresponded to the inflation at the time. In addition, the austerity package should be gradually phased out. However, the KV increase will not take effect until May this year and the inflation rate is now significantly higher, Stratberger explains the renegotiations. And you can’t offset the cancellation of the crisis-related savings package with a collectively agreed wage increase.

For Rene Pfister, works council member for commercial and technical staff, there is no reason for a works meeting. Constructive talks are currently being held, Pfister said in an interview with APA. However, there would also be other framework conditions here. In a few weeks, the employees will also be informed about the outcome of the negotiations. However, Pfister is optimistic that there will be positive news at the works meeting.
