According to an analysis carried out on the basis of official information from the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, the cost of rentals in Argentina had an increase of 245% since the new rental law, which entered into force on July 1, 2020. In other words, an agreed rent of $20,000 on July 1, 2020 became one of $69,000 on March 1, 2023.

The data arises from an analysis of the Center for Studies of the New Economy of the University of Belgrano on data from the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic. Since June 2022, the index has grown in double digits, although it has slowed down slightly since January 2023.

Thus, since July 2020, the rental index computes a total of 32 consecutive months of growth from July 2020 to March 2023. The curve described by the index also shows that since June 2022 it accelerated its growth with double-digit values, which saw its peak in January 2023 to then drop a few points in February and March.

“Although between the months of February and March 2023 we noticed a slowdown in the rental price adjustment index, given that they were in the order of 17 and 16 percentage points compared to January 19, the truth is that the curve continues to show an upward trend”, pointed out Víctor Beker, director of the Center for the Study of the New Economy of the University of Belgrano.
