Food production in Europe follows strict rules, “at the same time, we are opening up the EU internal market for imports that do not meet these standards”. The EU Commission should focus on the internal market.
The plan is to sign the agreement in the second half of the year. Austria is losing supporters in the EU: Criticism from Ireland and France has recently become quieter. Spain referred to Austria’s position as “a little shocking”. Germany is also pushing for the agreement. For the Federation of Industry, the veto is short-sighted: every fourth tax euro depends on exports. Fair trade agreements are a mainstay of the industry.
