The economy started the year on the right foot: it grew 2.9% in January

In January, the monthly estimator of economic activity registered an increase of 2.9% in the interannual comparison, and of 0.3% with respect to December in the seasonally adjusted measurement.

The economy started the year booming. In January, the monthly estimator of economic activity (EMAE) rose 2.9% in the interannual comparison, and 0.3% compared to December in the seasonally adjusted measurementas reported this Wednesday, March 29, by INDEC (National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of the Argentine Republic).

The EMAE for December, in the monthly comparison, added the fourth fall in a row since it had not risen since August 2022 when it did so with 0.3%. For its part, the indicator measured year-on-year had fallen by 1% in the last month of last year.

In relation to the same month of 2022, 14 of the activity sectors that make up the EMAE registered increases in January, among which those of Fishing (+81.2%), Exploitation of mines and quarries (+11.5%) and Hotels and restaurants (+8.6%).

The manufacturing industry sector (+7.1%) was the one with the highest positive incidence in the interannual variation of the EMAEfollowed by Wholesale, retail and repair trade (+5.2%).

For his part, the Agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry sector (-15.5%) was the only one that registered a drop in the interannual comparisonand subtracted 0.7 percentage points from the interannual variation of the EMAE.
