Energy: The federal and state governments agree on aid for oil heating

In the energy crisis, households that heat with oil are also suffering from the price increases. So far, however, they have not benefited from relief such as the gas price brake. That should change now.

After long negotiations, the federal and state governments have agreed on the implementation of hardship aid for private households that heat with heating oil or wood pellets. This was announced by the Federal Ministry of Economics in Berlin.

Based on the mechanism of the electricity and gas price brake, households are to receive financial support retrospectively for the year 2022. The prerequisite is that they had to spend significantly more due to the energy crisis, as it was said. Specifically, additional costs are to be cushioned in 2022 that go beyond a doubling of the price level from 2021.

The federal government is making up to 1.8 billion euros available for the hardship regulation via the Economic Stabilization Fund. The Budget Committee of the Bundestag gave the green light on Wednesday.

The specific programs were set up and paid out by the federal states. The federal and state governments agreed on administrative agreements. The electricity and gas price brakes have been in effect since March.
