The processing of the construction cartel, which was blown up in 2017, is progressing. In April, the construction company group Gebrüder Haider recognized a fine of 3.51 million euros and the facts were settled, the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) announced on Thursday. According to the BWB, three companies of the Haider brothers were involved in the construction cartel, which involved price fixing, market sharing and the exchange of information with competitors. The cartel participants exchanged views on public construction tenders with the aim of minimizing or eliminating competition and helping each other to place orders and thus secure market shares. According to the BWB, the cartel agreements mainly affected road construction projects in connection with mixed material plants and selective construction projects. The federal states of Lower Austria, Carinthia and Styria as well as some other federal states are affected.

Today, Thursday, according to the BWB, a more specific application for a fine was filed against three companies of the Haider brothers that are operationally active in the construction sector and an acknowledgment by the Haider brothers was submitted to the cartel court. According to the BWB, the Gebrüder Haider group of companies has now introduced a certified compliance system and taken further measures to prevent future violations of the ban on cartels.
