key to expanding connectivity and closing the digital divide

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced the authorization of the spectrum in the range from 5925 to 7125 MHz -6 GHz band- completely for free use (without a license) by the provider companies, a decision considered key to expanding connectivity and closing the digital divide.

The event was attended by representatives of companies such as Meta; Intel, Qualcomm, Amazon, Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA), Broadcom, Cisco, HPE, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Federated Wireless.

In his speech, Massa pointed out that the decision “is also one señvery positive for the local industryso that it begins to develop products and services using this band, thinking of that large market that is already standardized at the regional level and so that it is trained in all the new products that integrate the new digital technologies”.

“This technology will also support the development of 5G in the mobile world, making it possible to download on fixed networks vYoto Wi-Fi, expanding the capacity and quality of service”, concluded the minister.

For his part, the president of ENACOM, claudio ambrosinistressed that “technological progress never stops. We must keep up with the growing demand from States, societies and industries to increase efficiency, speed and connected devices. Such is the case of WIFI 6 technology for connection to networks, which is in full development in the world, but whose potential we cannot yet measure”.

“The national government established as a basic premise of its administration the expansion of rights, starting with the last to reach the first. At ENACOM we assume this responsibility and, since the beginning of our management in 2020, We work to guarantee the right to connectivity that all Argentines have”Ambrosini maintained.

Impulse

The full 6 GHz band can coexist with existing fixed link services, which allows maximizing the use of a national resource of Argentines as is the spectrum.

This decision, considered by the authorities as strategic for Argentina, allows it to be granted a boost to the knowledge economy, SMEs and sectors of the digital worldwho need to use a higher quality Wi-Fi that supports technological evolution and future developments supported by augmented reality, gaming, the metaverse, the Internet of Things and 5G.

At the same time, will enable SMEs and cooperatives to extend their connectivity offer based on competitive next-generation services -highlights the information from ENACOM- and that they reach each school, each hospital, each community, to the villas and popular neighborhoods in urban, suburban and remote areas.

This measure will, in turn, allow the deployment of training platforms for vocational and youth training, with virtual reality solutions. In this way, it is expected that Argentina will continue to grow in the export of software, as will the gaming industry, and professionals and companies will project themselves more internationally, according to new digital technologies.

The announcement is in line with what has already been defined by nine countries in the Americas, which brings together a total of 78% of the continent’s population and 254 million households, and which may enable economic benefits for Argentina.

On the other hand, there are more than 1,200 devices on the market that operate in this band (wifi 6E), including personal computers, smartphones, access points and TV, and that can be put to use, since they do not require obtaining a license , only the homologation of the equipment.

During the Wi-Fi 6 launch event, the members of the ENACOM board of directors were present: the vice president, Gustavo Lopez; the directors appointed by the National Executive Power, Gonzalo Quilodrán and María Florencia Pacheco; the directors proposed by the Bicameral Commission for the Promotion and Monitoring of Audiovisual Communication, Telecommunications Technologies and Digitization, Alejandro Gigena, Silvana Giudici and José Manuel Corral, remotely; the Entity’s Chief of Staff, ariel martinezand the coordinator of Technical Affairs, Diego Leiva.
