The use of industrial installed capacity (UCII) reached 67.5% in March, a percentage that represented a slight increase of 0.8% year-on-year, reported INDEC.

According to the agency, March of this year was the one with the highest use of installed capacity in the industry since at least 2016, when the series began. Compared to February, the UCII fell 0.4% (without seasonality) and put a brake on the growth of three consecutive months presented by the month-on-month measurement.

Thus, in the first quarter of 2023, the use of industrial installed capacity averaged the highest level since 2016: this record implied a growth of 2.1%. Compared to the same period of 2022 and 7% compared to the first quarter of 2019, according to official information.

Which sectors stood out and which fell back

Of the 12 surveyed sectors, only four operated in March at a higher level than in the same month of 2022: automotive (13%), oil refining (13.2%), metal mechanics (3.5%) and basic metal (2.9%), detailed the INDEC.

And he added that seven of the 12 sectors operated with falls in the ICUs against March 2022: the one with the highest negative incidence was food and beverages with a 3% decline, followed by chemicals, with 3.8%.

Compared to February, eight of 12 sectors increased the use of their installed capacity: those with the highest incidence were metal-mechanics (1.8%), food products and beverages (0.8%), the automotive industry (3.6%) and refining of oil (1.9).
