Only a few points separate the Dax from a historic high on Friday afternoon. The prospect of a solution to the US debt dispute had fueled prices the day before and is continuing to do so. At its peak, the leading German index rose to 16,285 points and was only around five points away from a record high. The previous Dax high dates from November 2021 at a good 16,290 points. Most recently, the index was up 0.6 percent at 16,260 points.

On Thursday, the Dax closed above the 16,000 point mark for the first time since the beginning of 2022. Due to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and the turnaround in interest rates, the leading German index temporarily fell to less than 12,000 points at the end of September before a rapid recovery began.
