Diesel scandal: Judgment against ex-Audi boss Stadler expected at the end of June

The trial against former Audi boss Rupert Stadler could come to an end at the end of June. Will he get away with a suspended sentence?

Following the admission of former Audi boss Rupert Stadler, the fraud case against him in connection with the diesel scandal could come to an end at the end of June. After the two other co-defendants also confessed in the proceedings, the Munich I Regional Court is now planning to pronounce judgment on June 27th, the court announced on Friday. Accordingly, the public prosecutor’s office is to plead on June 13th and the defense of the three accused on June 14th and 20th. In addition, an appointment for taking evidence and a reserve day are planned.

However, the sentence in the verdict should not come as a surprise. After Stadler’s confession on Tuesday and an agreement with the court and the public prosecutor’s office, the proceedings are expected to end with a suspended sentence. The Economic Criminal Court had promised the 60-year-old one and a half to two years of imprisonment on probation if he made a comprehensive confession and paid 1.1 million euros.

According to the court’s promises, the two co-defendants can also count on probation. The case against a fourth defendant, an engineer, has already been dropped on payment of a fine.
