Shortage of skilled workers: Heil: Career orientation at all types of schools from class five

In his speech at the 24th Tourism Summit in Berlin, Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil also spoke about the shortage of skilled workers and his wish for more career orientation in schools.

Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil wants to focus more on careers orientation in schools in order to attract skilled workers. “This country doesn’t just need academics. We don’t just need masters, we also need masters,” said the SPD politician at the tourism summit in Berlin.

More vocational orientation is needed in schools to “enable young people to get to know the different professional worlds not only through a short internship, but also through a longer phase”. His wish for state politics is career orientation at all types of schools from the fifth grade.

Representatives of travel companies, airlines, rail and bus transport came together in Berlin for an industry meeting. In addition to Minister of Labor Heil, Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) also spoke.
