Bureaucracy: Secretary of State: Relief of bureaucracy against recession

State Secretary Benjamin Strasser sees the reduction in bureaucracy as an opportunity for the German economy. The deletion of some regulations could make everyday life easier. Strasser appeals for courage.

In its fight against the economic recession, the FDP-led Ministry of Justice is focusing on reducing bureaucracy. “In this way we will make things easier for the economy and the citizens without burdening the budget: This is a growth spurt for free,” said Justice State Secretary Benjamin Strasser, the German Press Agency. The FDP politician is the federal government’s coordinator for better regulation and reducing bureaucracy.

“Germany slipped into recession due to external factors, we can only get out of it on our own,” he emphasized. Key points for a law to relieve bureaucracy should be presented before the end of the summer. “Reducing bureaucracy must become even more noticeable in people’s everyday lives. We want to free our economy from the shackle of bureaucracy,” Strasser said. “We should now have the strength and courage to remove a large number of regulations.”

The German economy slipped into a recession in winter. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 0.3 percent in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter. The prospects for the year as a whole are also subdued.
