Career advancement and better income opportunities are the main reasons for further training. But to what extent does further training really serve these purposes? A survey provides information.
According to a study, further training, for example to become a master craftsman or business economist, pays off financially in most cases. According to a survey of 20,000 graduates published today by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), around 60 percent earned more money than before after appropriate training.
About the same number stated that they had reached a higher position or a greater area of responsibility in their job after completing their training. Precisely for these two reasons – to advance professionally and to have better income opportunities – the large majority of those surveyed said they also decided to do further training.
About a quarter of those whose income had improved stated a monthly gross wage increase of more than 1000 euros, another third had at least 500 euros more after the further training.
DIHK General Manager Achim Dercks today promoted higher vocational training degrees. These are equivalent to a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a university. “With an unemployment rate of only 1.2 percent – and thus even lower than for academics – the labor market in this group is completely empty.”
