Train connection: ICE from Berlin to Paris: Which route will it be?

Via Karlsruhe and Strasbourg or Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken? That is the question that arises with the direct train connection from Berlin to Paris.

In the struggle for the route of the new ICE connection between Berlin and Paris, Lorraine has now joined in Strasbourg and Karlsruhe. A guided tour of the train via Saarbrücken would also benefit the French department of Moselle, said the mayor of the border town of Forbach, Alexandre Cassaro, to the newspaper “Les Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace”.

“I spoke to the mayor of Saarbrücken, Uwe Conradt, and we are ready, as politicians from Moselle and Saarland, to campaign for a trip via Saarbrücken.” This increases the attractiveness of the department. “A stop in Forbach would of course be even more interesting.”

First of all, there should be a daily direct connection from Berlin via Frankfurt to Paris from the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024. In the near future a decision will be made as to whether the train will travel via Karlsruhe and Strasbourg or via Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken. So far it has been said that the train runs through Saarland because the other route is too busy.

Only recently, German and French town hall heads and parliamentarians called for the planned ICE to run via Karlsruhe and Strasbourg. France’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, had also intervened in this sense.
