According to the fifth installment of the monthly report “SME Trade Perspective”carried out based on a survey of more than 900 SME businesses that operate with Mercado Pago in Argentina, 6 out of 10 businesses affirm that customers consume more when they pay under this digital payment method.


According to the report, 90% of the businesses surveyed ensure that their customers consult before paying if it is possible to do it digitally, while 70% declare that less than 50% of their sales are made in cash.
“In this context of falling retail consumption, businesses find in charging with QR or with card terminals a way not to lose sales and get their customers to spend more. After five years of a profound revolution in the means of payment, we see that this trend continued in the last year and throughout the country”, added Augustine ViolaSenior Director of SMEs and Entrepreneurs of Mercado Pago.
According to the businesses that digitalized their collections, 85% increased or maintained sales volume in line with inflation.
According to company data, all regions of the country experienced year-on-year growth in digital payments. Patagonia stands out as the region that most increased the volume of sales under this modality (96%), followed by the Northeast (95%), Cuyo (87%) and the Central region (85%) of the country.
Finally, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the Province of Buenos Aires a growth of 77% is observed and in the Northwest region of 66%.
