SENASA creates a specialized technical unit

The creation of this unit is an important step in the development of the cannabis industry in the country.

Exactly one month after it was regulated the law on medical cannabis and industrial hemp, through which the operation of the Hemp Industry Regulatory Agency and of the Medical Cannabis (Ariccame), of the Federal Council for the Development of the Hemp and Medicinal Cannabis Industry and the Honorary Advisory Council, the Government continues advancing in the matter.

through the Resolution 716/2023 published this Thursday in the Official bulletinhe National Service for Food Health and Quality (SENASA), created the Technical Management Unit in Cannabis and Hemp.

This body will have as its objective consolidate actions based on strategic guidelines that allow collaboration with SENASA’s organizational units on issues that require interdisciplinary opinions related to the cannabis industryat the same time as coordinating the tasks of the work team in order to participate in the elaboration of policies that promote the development of this new sectoral productive chain.

The person in charge of the Technical Management Unit in Cannabis and Hemp Industrial will be the agent Diego Ezequiel Penawho will be in charge of the articulation with all areas of SENASA and the supervision of the tasks of the work team of the unit.

The resolution also annuls regulation No. RESOL-2022-454-APN-PRES#SENASA of July 24, 2022which created the Agency’s Strategic Table for Cannabis and Industrial Hemp.

The resolution establishes that:

  • The Technical Management Unit for Cannabis and Industrial Hemp is created within the scope of the SENASA Presidency Unit.
  • The unit will have the objective of consolidating actions based on strategic guidelines that allow collaboration with SENASA’s organizational units on issues that require interdisciplinary opinions related to the cannabis industry.
  • The person in charge of the unit will be the agent Diego Ezequiel Peña.
  • Resolution No. RESOL-2022-454-APN-PRES#SENASA of July 24, 2022 is annulled.

The industry of hemp and medical cannabis is a highly relevant issue on the agenda of the futurepromoting the generation of employment, economic development and inclusion in Argentina. In the short term, it should be remembered, the creation of ten thousand jobs distributed throughout the country, with a strong focus on fostering local economies. This will have a significant impact on smaller communities, contributing substantially to their growth and development.
