On the satirical replacement posters, the non-governmental organization shows dystopian future versions of German cities to draw attention to the consequences of the climate crisis.
As a protest against the IAA Mobility car show in Munich, Attac has put up critical pastiches of car advertising in the city. On Thursday night, activists exchanged posters at bus stops and tram shelters for their satirical works. Under the heading “The freedom you mean”, the motifs show a car in front of three different backgrounds: Berlin affected by forest fires, Hamburg sunken in the sea and Munich swallowed up by the desert.
Attac had planned to exchange up to 70 posters to protest against the climate impact of the auto industry and road traffic. It was initially unclear how many were ultimately attached. The organizers had announced before the campaign that the original posters should not be damaged.
The Munich police sees the hanging of the posters as an administrative offence. Two people who were caught attaching are being investigated, it said. However, the posters themselves were not objectionable. According to the police, the posters were distributed throughout the city. She assumes several dozen.
The IAA Mobility runs until Sunday in Munich, and various groups are protesting against the trade fair.
