The number of unemployed people in Upper Austria rose from 25,922 to 28,641, which corresponds to an increase of 10.9 percent. 10,125 people are undergoing training (plus 7.2 percent). At the same time, the number of employees also rose slightly to 704,000. This results in an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent, which is well below the Austria-wide unemployment rate of 6.3 percent. Vienna has by far the biggest problem with unemployment. One in ten people there is unemployed.
After the summer season, Upper Austria traditionally performs better in terms of unemployment statistics than the tourism states of Salzburg and Tyrol, which always have the best values in the high season. The decline in the numbers of long-term unemployed is positive. (minus 9.1 percent) However, not all values are good. Unemployment, especially among young people (under 25 years of age), rose by 22.4 percent compared to October of the previous year.
The unemployment figures clearly reflect the economic situation. The Labor Market Service (AMS) in Upper Austria recorded the largest increases and highest unemployment figures in the areas of production, trade, construction and temporary employment. In the area of health and social affairs, the numbers are even declining.
While there were more vacancies than unemployed people last year, this ratio has now reversed. After all, there are still 25,440 open positions registered at the AMS.
