The level of industrial activity registered its fourth consecutive decline in September, losing 3.6% in relation to the same month last year, reported this Tuesday the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).

Regarding the previous month, factory activity in September was 0.2% above that of last August.

In this way, the industry, within a very heterogeneous panorama, accumulated a decrease of 0.4% throughout the first nine months of the year.

In September, nine of the 16 divisions of the manufacturing industry presented year-on-year declines.

In order to its impact on the general level, falls were recorded in “Food and beverages”, -10.4%; “Machinery and equipment”, -9.7%; “Metal products”, -6.4%; “Furniture and mattresses, and other manufacturing industries”, -7.1%; “Wood, paper, publishing and printing”, -2.2%; “Basic metals”, -2.4%; “Non-metallic mineral products”, -2.9%; and “Tobacco products”, -5.9%.

For their part, the items showed increases “Substances and chemical products”, +2.7%; “Oil refining”, +6.3%; “Rubber and plastic”, +4.3%; “Clothing, leather and footwear”, +3.5%; “Other equipment, devices and instruments”, +1.7%; “Textiles”, +1.9%; and “Other transportation equipment”, +2.1%.
