Stock exchange in Frankfurt: DAX gains – waiting for US inflation data

The indices on the German stock market rose moderately on Monday at the start of a week filled with economic data. The leading index Dax approached its Friday high in the first hour of trading with an increase of 0.42 percent to 15,297.72 points. The MDax of medium-sized companies gained 0.20 percent to 25,340.49 points. The Eurozone index EuroStoxx 50 rose by around 0.7 percent. Previously, the Dow Jones Industrial and especially the Nasdaq indices rose significantly in New York on Friday.

Market participants this week are focusing on US consumer prices, which will be published on Tuesday. If the inflation rate falls, this would indicate a pause in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve on December 13th, wrote analyst Christian Henke from broker IG. The Fed’s last interest rate decision of the year will take place on this day. If inflation falls, interest rate optimism could increase again and boost the German leading index, says Henke.

In the DAX on Monday, Rheinmetall gained 2.1 percent, its best value to date. Reports of a doubling of arms aid to Ukraine gave impetus. Airbus shares benefited from the prospect of orders at the Dubai Air Show with a gain of 1.8 percent. Beiersdorf lost 0.6 percent after a gloomy outlook from its Japanese competitor Shiseido.

According to the insurer’s quarterly report, Talanx gained 2.1 percent in the MDax. Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) initially suffered once again from study data on the weight loss drug Wegovy from Novo Nordisk, but then turned positive with a recent gain of 0.3 percent.

The shares of the commercial vehicle supplier Jost Werke lost 3.4 percent in the SDax of the smaller stocks according to quarterly figures. Borussia Dortmund fell by 2.3 percent after another defeat in the Bundesliga.

The shares of the wind power and solar company Energiekontor, which will also have its quarterly report on Monday, recovered by 4.8 percent.
