A report from the consultant EconViewsdirected by economist Miguel Kiguel, reported increases of 113% in dollars in the kilo of white rice, and 103% in the package of flour.
The package of dry noodles in supermarkets went from costing US$0.55 to US$0.99 in the last 100 days, on average.
One step lowerthere was a 68% increase in the price of milk in sachets. In the latter case, the value went from US$0.44 to US$0.74 per liter.
In the case of minced meat, the accumulated increase since October, in dollars, totaled 38% and 37% in the case of bread.
The EconViews report compared the dollar values paid in the local supermarkets against similar products in chains in the United States.

Is Argentina an expensive country in dollars?
Kiguel’s consulting firm addresses the question, and answers it. “Are we already an expensive country in dollars?”they ask in the EconViews report.
“The short answer is no. With the January inflation data, the real exchange rate is 21% above its historical average. The parallel, which is usually used for this type of comparison, is 90% above,” he says.
In the case of the package of flour, the price in the United States is 110% more expensive than in Buenos Aires. The report takes into account a sample of nine products from the basic basket (see separate table, in this same note).
“TLike the blue, in January the supermarket basket published by INDEC was half what it was in the US. But in October it was a third. In three months, some products became 40-100% more expensive in dollars,” summarizes the consultant. Although not at the moment, we will have to see what happens at the end of the month.
