Last fall, the federal government announced the “job turbo”. Now the Minister of Labor has announced an interim status.
Labor Minister Hubertus Heil expects more Ukrainian refugees to enter the German labor market. “The “job turbo” is running at full speed,” said the SPD politician in Berlin on Monday. Quick integration into the labor market is important both for the acceptance of the German population and for those affected. Since the beginning of the war, around 160,000 Ukrainian refugees have been put into work.
Heil expects that the number of refugees placed will increase as the language courses complete. At the same time, the Labor Minister emphasized that it is important that employers do not place too high demands on the language skills of refugees. You learn German not only in integration courses, but above all in the workplace, he said during a visit to a hairdressing business that employs refugees. “Even those who don’t yet speak our language perfectly can get off to a successful start,” said the Labor Minister.
“Germany urgently needs skilled workers and workers,” emphasized Heil. The Ministry of Labor continues to work closely with the Federal Employment Agency and job centers. Through job fairs and part-time language courses, refugees should be placed on the job market more quickly. “It is important to work on both sides, with the refugees themselves and also with German companies,” said Heil. “Work is the best integration.”
Last fall the government announced the “job turbo”. The aim is to enable refugees with prospects of staying in a job more quickly. Heil had announced that it would place around 400,000 refugees in jobs directly from their language courses, including around 200,000 from Ukraine. Since then, refugees have been invited and advised by the job centers more often than before. Heil spoke of 225,000 additional conversations from November to February compared to the same period last year. A detailed assessment will be made in the autumn.
