City tourism, led by Vienna in particular, was also a key factor in the success. It achieved a new record with 11.5 million overnight stays, up from 11.1 million in the record winter of 2018/19.
Compared to winter 2022/23, the number of overnight stays increased by 2.6 percent and the number of guests by 5.5 percent. Kraus-Winkler saw this as an “even more positive balance than a year ago.”

February strongest month
As is traditional, the strongest months were February, followed by January. Last season, these were stronger – thanks in part to the leap day – with 18.5 and 15.5 million overnight stays respectively than in the record season 2018/19 with 17.9 and 15.2 million overnight stays respectively. However, as March and April were weaker, a new overall record was not achieved.
